threats and lock in of protesting students at middle school in berkely

A student organized walk-out at willard middle school in berkely was banned by the school board and teachers and administraters discouraged and threatened students not to participate. the students were locked onto school grounds(is this legal?) , closeing and locking all surrounding gates and threatening students with suspention.
