UN: No gunbattle at time UNWRA worker killed
An UNWRA spokesman in Geneva said Tuesday that agency worker Iain Hook was killed
in Jenin last week by a single shot to the back, at a time when there was no army operation
in the area, reports Israel Radio.
The spokesman said that an investigation into the circumstances of Hook's death has been
opened at the UN in New York, but that several elements are already clear at this time:
- Hook was killed by a single bullet to the back, while standing in the UNRWA Jenin
compound.
- There was no other gunfire or army activity of any kind at the time.
It was reported last week, based on preliminary results of the IDF's own investigation, that
Hook was killed by two soldiers because he held an object they mistook for for a pistol.
The army emphasized that the UNRWA compound is used by terrorists to fire on soldiers
in the area.
