STOP the WAR on BLACK people in OAKLAND!

by Wendy (oak_inpdum [at] yahoo.com)
CONVICT THE RIDERS!!
Demonstration this Wednesday, October 15th, 12 noon at the Alameda Court House, 1221 Oak St., Oakland
CONVICT THE RIDERS!!

Let's make some noise and tell them we want these thugs behind bars!!

The 'Oakland Riders' are standing trial for committing heinous crimes against African people of West Oakland. With ex-OPD Francisco Vazquez on the lam, the three others - Clarence Mabanag, Jude Siapno and Matthew Hornung - have been accused of beating so-called suspects, falsifying documents, planting evidence and running roughshod over black peoples' rights.

This is an opportunity to get at the core of the rampant brutality against African and oppressed people in Oakland at the hands of the police.

Given guns and badges by the city of Oakland, we know that the 'Riders' are not some kind of aberration, but represent the Oakland policy of
police containment of the African and oppressed
communities. Recent events have connected OPD with drugs and prostitution, a fact that is generally known inside the African community.

DEFEAT MEASURE FF!
With this level of police brutality and corruption inside Oakland Police Department, the city has the audacity and the arrogance to put a measure on the ballot for monies for 100 more officers. Let's defeat this
measure soundly and use the campaign to defeat it to
call

Let's build larger and larger protests and pressure for a conviction of the 'Riders' and build a real movement to demand real for real economic development that will bring small businesses, jobs and services to the flatlands of Oakland!!

Sponsored by the International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDUM). InPDUM organizes around the question of democratic rights for African people, and the understanding that self-determination is the highest expression of Democracy. InPDUM is open to people of all nationalities who want to join this fight for the rights of African people to have freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom to live without the constant threat of police violence, and the right to access to adequate food, shelter and clothing. These rights are being violated against African people on a daily basis, worldwide

Who is really killing black people? Black criminals!! Rogue cops are but part of the problem. Interesting is that since the Riders were "grounded" the homicide rate in Oakland has skyrocketed!

the public policy of police containment.

you find it "interesting is that since the Riders were 'grounded' the homicide rate in Oakland has skyrocketed!" that's because you, like most white americans, been won to believe there's some inherent pathology in the black community and it takes armed thugs like the riders to keep everyone in check.

i find it interesting that most of the murders remained unsolved, and the police are now getting a 79 million more dollars and 100 more recruits. makes me wonder if the police aren't behind it. when a crime is committed the first person to look at is whose benefitting from the crime. in this case its the opd.

see you all tomorrow afternoon. matthew.

Strangely, you ignored my questions to you on this very issue...

i'm sorry, i had lost interest in the thread and never saw your post til you pointed it out now. but it seems like your question to me amounts to "what are you go about the contradiction of the illegal drug economy in oakland." i'm sorry i can't always promise to continue threads here indefinitely.

i guess part of the answer lies here in this thread which calls for action, not circular diatribes on indymedia. i've made a public committment to attend a demo to indict the real "playas;" the drug dealers who wear blue suits and carry guns and get licensed by the city of oakland.

hope to meet you in person at the demo tomorrow, oaklander.

I would encourage all to come out to the court on the 15th and expose these oppressors for what they are. We also need momentum and people should be building for the October 22nd Coalition national Day Against Police brutlaity. See above post on news wire for more info
by Oaklander
since you have made a commitment to go to a demonstration, I guess you've done everything anyone could possibly ask.

A demo...please.

Oh, and nobody expects you to go on forever in dialogue, but it is always a bit suspicious when someone's interest suddenly "drops" when they have nothing to say.

But Matthew has given his answer: to stop drug dealers on Oakland, everyone should go to a demonstration against Oakland police officers.

That should just about do it.

At least cut a check or volunteer for SOMETHING, dude. Jesus.
by fernan
stop cryin to jesus dude, he has nothing to do with this.

matthew IS volunteering to go to a demonstration. duh.
who should he write a check to?
and what good would it do?
and why do you have such a hard on for him anyway?
and why are you so defensive about a couple of corrupt cops?

the riders are definitely guilty, that's why their leader is on the lam in Mexico.

and you wrote this just this week:

"i appreciate the level of discussion going on in this thread. criticism is great for the movement."

But not when it's not going your way. So don't try to diminish my legitimate inquiry by dismissing it as "just fucking talking." You have more posts on this Indymedia thing than I ever will!

It's completely OK to say you don't know.

by matthew
i wasn't trying to "diminish your inquiry." i just lost interest in that thread, and like you said i did answer your question:

"But Matthew has given his answer: to stop drug dealers on Oakland, everyone should go to a demonstration against Oakland police officers."

yes. that's a great idea. even 10% of everyone would be great.

Fernan: a few posts up I linked to another discussion thread. Go to it, if you like, to read the beginning of Matthew and my discussion. Then you will see where I'm coing from a little bit.

Thank you for the answer, Matthew. I respectfully do not agree that that is the way to improve poor Oakland neighborhoods. I certainly believe that the demonstration, particularly in the Bay Area, is a tool whose time has passed--authorities certainly know how to contain them, and the conventional media ignores them. Sorry, it's true, and it doesn;t matter how many people go--the pro Palestinian march on Washongton taight you that.

In any case, I still go to them from time to time. Couldn't make this demo, though--damn job.
by Oaklander
..was the demo you went to yesterday the one with a "handful" of protestors mentioned in the Tribune this morning?

Interfering with jurors: great strategy. Just the thing the cops' lawyers will need if they have to appeal a conviction.

Great job, "radical.
by matthew
and i'm damn proud to have been among them. only a handful of us -- a far cry from the "10% of everyone" we're seeking.

but aren't you glad we were out there, anyway, oaklander? aren't you glad *someone* was out there making a public stand against the riders? aren't you glad that the there was *something* in the paper about popular opposition to the riders?

fuck it. we will be there, over and over again. one. ten. fifty. 1,000. one million. whatever. we do what's right. not whats popular. we are the uhuru movement. we will be here when you want to join us.

love, matthew
by Oaklander
Indeed, I'm glad that someone was out there giving a public face to the overwhelming opposition to the Riders, their tactics, and the presence of brutality in our police department. I've never met anyone who is in favor of Riders-like behavior.

HOWEVER, I do not approve of trying to unduly influence jurors, like was purported by the Oakland Tribune in their coverage of the article. The Riders crimes, I feel, will be obvious on their face. My fear--quite justified--is that their lawyers will use allegations of improperly influenced jury members to press for an appeal in the case of a conviction.

That's all I was saying. If you have the time, you should be protesting. Just leave the jurors be.
