Juneteenth on KPFA 94.1 FM
Juneteenth on KPFA, 94.1 FM and the other 4 Pacifica stations is today, June 19, 2002. Turn on your radio; take your radio to work with or without earphones, and above all pledge to retire the debt left by the saboteurs we defeated with lawsuits in December 2001. You will hear Angela Davis, Alice Walker and others in 15 hours of programming commemorating the day when Texas slaves received the news of the Emancipation Proclamation that they were free, over 2 years after that proclamation was issued.

The Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863 freed the slaves in the rebelling territories, namely the Confederacy, of which Texas was a part, but the planters were allowed 2 more harvests before the slaves were given the news that they were free. I have a degree in American history and never heard any discussion of Juneteenth Day in class, but you will hear all about it on KPFA as all 5 Pacifica stations join together to celebrate this important day in American history and retire the $4.8 million debt left by the saboteurs who were defeated with our lawsuits in December 2001. Those stations are in Berkeley, Los Angeles, Houston, Washington, DC and New York City. These are all listener-sponsored, community radio stations, bringing us the news, history, literature and music that you will get nowhere else.
We need KPFA now more than ever. You will learn much today, Juneteenth 2002, and please give what you can.
Hip, hip, hooray, We love KPFA!
