BARI VERDICT ALERT!
The Judi Bari vs. FBI jury sent a note to the judge Monday afternoon saying they have reached unanimous verdicts on 6 of the 7 defendants.
The Judi Bari vs. FBI jury sent a note to the judge Monday afternoon saying they have reached unanimous verdicts on 6 of the 7 defendants.
The judge has called lawyers for both sides to come to court at 8 AM Tuesday morning.
The issue is whether to accept a partial verdict and discharge the jury, or require the jury to continue deliberations in an effort to avoid a hung jury on one defendant, which might lead to a second trial.
This means the verdict may come in Tuesday, but there is no guarantee. It depends on what the judge decides.

The note was entirely hypothetical so we can't be sure they have verdicts on any of the defendants for any of the claims. The judge told the jury this morning that they could deliver a partial verdict and hang on some claims, but they would need a new verdict form. The lawyers and judge are currently working on the new form and will give it to the jury if they ask for it.
The jury plans on going home at 1:30 pm this afternoon so it is possible that they could reach a decision this afternoon but just as likely not. Stay tuned for updates.

The jury has announced their schedule for the rest of the week. They plan on deliberating until 1:30 pm today and from 8:30am -2pm for the rest of the week. No one can say if this means there will not be a verdict until Friday (or later) but it doesn't look as close as we thought. They have yet to ask for the new verdict form for a hung jury.
Thanks for the updates Laurel. We're all watching!
