Announcing a street medic and affinity group medic training weekend
at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA,
November 2-4.
This two-and-a-half-day training course will cover street first aid
and chemical weapons decontamination protocol, as well as extensive
roleplays and assessment. Designed as a complete introduction to
basic action medical knowledge and skills, completion of this course
will prepare you to serve as a street medic at upcoming political
actions.
-Everyone is invited.
-No medical or first aid training or experience required.
-Sliding-scale donations appreciated ($20 suggested.)
November 2 (Fri.) 6pm-10pm
Chemical Weapons (4 hours):
Covers a review of current chemical agents in use (CN, CS,
OC, and CR), a discussion of personal protection gear (gas masks,
respirators, etc), and a complete introduction to tear gas and pepper
spray decontamination and treatment protocols with demonstrations,
hands-on practice and role-plays.
November 3 (Sat.) 9am-7pm
Street First Aid (10 Hours):
This extensive introductory training provides essential first
aid knowledge, as applied to actual street experience at mass
demonstrations and direct actions. Includes treatment protocols for
trauma, weather-related llness, and much more, with numerous hands-on
practicals. Friday evening and Saturday provide the complete course
for Affinity Group Medics.
November 4 (Sun.) 9am-7pm
Street Medic Operations (4 Hours):
Introduction to how street medics function in the field.
Begins with presentation and discussion of codes of conduct and
ethics, team makeup & teamwork, calling for backup, and dealing with
police/EMS. Includes how/when to move patients (practicals) and how
to conduct triage.
Street Medic RolePlays (5 Hours):
Participants play one of three roles (police, protestors,
street medics) during several roleplays intended to simulate
demonstration environments. Each roleplay is evaluated. This
fast-paced and energetic training is where medics make mistakes,
instead of in the field!
Basic Medic Skills Evaluation (1 Hour):
Opportunity for those who wish to further practice and hone
their skills; hands-on practicals where instructors can offer
one-on-one evaluation.
Space is limited. Please preregister by emailing Pablo at ppaster@calpoly.edu
