Following Flávio Bolsonaro’s strong showing in the first round of Brazil’s presidential election, millions of young people, workers, and retirees took to the streets in a massive mobilization against the far right. The protests shifted the dynamics of the election, helping bring an additional 10 million voters to the polls and contributing to Lula’s victory. The message from the streets was clear: the Brazilian people did not want a far-right government backed by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.
Fabio Bosco, a transit worker in São Paulo and a supporter of Conlutas, Brazil’s national labor federation, spoke to Pacifica’s Steve Zeltzer about the mass mobilization.

On October 30, dockworkers in more than 100 ports around the world took part in a coordinated day of action. Workers shut down port operations and joined tens of thousands of other workers and young people in demonstrations against the genocide in Gaza and imperialist wars. In the United States, the only labor action took place at the Port of Oakland, where members of ILWU Locals 10 and 34 joined community supporters for a rally in solidarity with Palestine and against militarism.
Clarence Thomas, retired secretary-treasurer of ILWU Local 10, spoke about the significance of this international mobilization.
The current ILWU local 10 President Mike Villeggiante spoke to Pacifica’s Steve Zeltzer about how his union connected with the global day of action.
Next, April, a member of Gabriela, a Filipino women’s organization, and the Defend Negros Island Campaign of Northern California, spoke about the connections between struggles here and in the Philippines. She discussed their shared fight against C & H Sugar Company in Crockett, California, and the importance of building solidarity across labor and community movements.

Back on March 25th we aired an interview of Amber Lowrey, sister of one of the Prairieland defendants in north Texas. All nine of those charged with federal crimes had just been convicted of at least one terrorism-related charge stemming from a “noise” and fireworks demonstration in support of detained immigrants at an ICE prison in Alvarado, Texas on July 4, 2025.
Today we air a portion of a panel discussion hosted by Chip Gibbons, Policy Director at Defending Rights & Dissent. The moderator is the National Lawyers Guild’s “Mass Defense Initiative” attorney Xavier de Janon. Dario Sanchez, a state-level defendant in the case and Seth Stern of the Freedom of the Press Foundation make up the rest of the panel exploring the implications of these ramped up “terrorism” convictions for political speech and action in Trump’s America.
In our July 7th show of this year, we reported on the outlandish sentences imposed on the eight federal Prairieland defendants by two federal judges — a combined 450 years imprisonment with sentences ranging from 30 to 100 years! All of those cases are currently on appeal. For updates on their cases, appeals, and to support their defense efforts, see the website https://prairielanddefendants.com/.
