Could AI Take Control of Humanity? Perhaps We Are Handing It Over Ourselves...?
Not so long ago, a machine uprising seemed like something straight out of science-fiction movies. In The Terminator, Skynet declared war on humanity, in The Matrix, people had no idea they were living in an artificial reality, and RoboCop showed just how closely technology and power could become intertwined.
Hopefully, scenarios like these are still a long way off... But some things already resemble the beginning of those movies: we are gradually entrusting AI with more and more tasks and decisions.
Social media algorithms choose what we see, recommendations influence our interests and purchases, and AI is being used in finance, lending, and recruitment. It seems that soon it will know more about us than we know about ourselves. AI that remains is to teach it why we open the fridge at three in the morning.
AI is also influencing our personal lives. People turn to chatbots for advice about careers, relationships, and psychological problems. Convincing conversations can create trust and emotional attachment. In some legal and medical cases, the possible influence of such interactions on dangerous beliefs and human behavior has been discussed.
There is also a financial dimension. According to the FBI, in 2025, 22,364 reports related to AI-enabled fraud were filed in the United States. The reported losses amounted to nearly $893 million. Fake voices, photographs, and videos are becoming tools of deception.
Of course, AI isn't putting on a metal endoskeleton and hunting for Sarah Connor just yet. Or perhaps we simply haven't heard about it?
Perhaps the greatest danger is not that machines will one day seize power, but that we will gradually hand it over to them ourselves.
And here's the big question: if AI offers us a pill from The Matrix one day, will we still have enough critical thinking left to read the instructions first?
After all, technology should help us remain human, not turn us into an app attached to our own smartphones. Don't you think?
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
