New Book “J’Accuse…!” Makes the Case for Trying Donald J. Trump Under International Law

by Martin Edwin Andersen (TheKissingerException [at] yahoo.com)
“J’Accuse…! Donald J. Trump and the Nuremberg Legacy” by journalist and historian Martin Edwin Andersen is out now from Vos Estis Press, with a foreword by Norman Stockwell, publisher of The Progressive. Its twenty chapters set out the documented case that a sitting U.S. president’s conduct belongs before an international court. Its companion, “The Kissinger Exception,” is coming in the Fall/Winter 2026 (A Contracorriente / UNC Press).
Donald J. Trump
Eighty years after Nuremberg, a new book asks whether the principle the United States helped establish there still holds: that no one, however high their office, is above the law.
J’Accuse…! Donald J. Trump and the Nuremberg Legacy, by journalist and historian Martin Edwin Andersen, is now available from Vos Estis Press, a small press whose name honors the life and works of Pope Francis. The book opens with a fictional frame. A man named Damián Reyes files an Article 15 Communication with the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Twenty chapters of documented evidence follow, from the Caribbean boat strikes to the campaign against the ICC. They draw on the principles of Benjamin B. Ferencz, the last surviving Nuremberg prosecutor. The final chapter examines self-enrichment in office. It covers the family’s cryptocurrency interests, the $TRUMP memecoin, World Liberty Financial and foreign participation in Trump-associated ventures, all while the administration retreated from enforcing laws on money laundering and foreign bribery.
In his foreword, Norman Stockwell, publisher of The Progressive, places the book in the tradition of Hannah Arendt’s and Elizabeth Minnich’s work on how ordinary people come to do harm. “The twenty meticulously researched chapters that follow establish beyond a doubt the case against Donald J. Trump and why it should be prosecuted in an international court of law,” he writes. The book, he adds, “now lives in the world and that act cannot be undone.”
A companion volume, The Kissinger Exception: Nuremberg’s Unfinished Reckoning, is coming in October 2026 from Editorial A Contracorriente, distributed by the University of North Carolina Press. It uses Henry Kissinger as its central case study to show that the standards of Nuremberg have been unevenly enforced. It tests his policies in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Chile, Argentina, Cyprus and the Middle East against the legal thresholds set at Nuremberg. The two books are mirror images of elite impunity in two eras. They are joined by Kissinger’s own embrace of Trump: “This president-elect is the most unique that I have experienced in one respect. No baggage” (CNN, Fareed Zakaria GPS, November 2016).
Advance praise for The Kissinger Exception:
“The book combines the wisdom of philosophical reflection with the rigor of investigative journalism. It is a monumental achievement of law and morality.” — John Dinges, Godfrey Lowell Cabot Professor emeritus of International Journalism at Columbia University and author of The Condor Years and Chile in Their Hearts
“This brilliantly researched book shows in painful detail how Kissinger transgressed every moral and legal norm that supposedly guides this nation’s conduct in the wider world.” — George Black, author of The Long Reckoning
Martin Edwin Andersen is a former senior adviser for policy planning in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He has taught at the National Defense University and the U.S. Naval Academy. As a journalist, he documented Argentina’s “Dirty War” and the trial of its generals. As a national security whistleblower, he exposed institutions that turned a blind eye to human rights violators in their ranks.
