FEMA administrator tells Americans you’re on your own

Cameron Hamilton of FEMA wants Americans’ to ‘piss off’ if they need FEMA help

Oakland, CA - It was on October 17, 1989, at 5:04 p.m. (PDT), that the Loma Prieta 6.9 earthquake occurred on the Central Coast of California 37 years ago, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to Oakland, resulting in 42 deaths when the Cypress Structure of the 880 freeway collapsed during the World Series, which is also happening presently in October 2026.

Thankfully at the time in 1989, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was still fully intact to help people out from disasters, and to help Oakland rebuild itself after around 40,000 buildings were damaged from the devastating 6.9 earthquake. This was before the fascist convicted felon President Donald J. Trump regime, and his henchman Cameron Hamilton, got their dirty little hands on FEMA to destroy the agency, and use it as a political weapon. That’s right. Trump has been waging WAR against the American public.

The Loma Prieta Earthquake In 1989.

From what I recall. At the time of the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, I was downtown Oakland inside a used clothing store on Broadway St., near 14th St., called the Salvation Army. Inside the busy store, it started sounding like a freight train off in the distance that kept getting louder and louder, and closer and closer, until it became a deafening roar. I recall glancing at the large plate glass store windows wondering what the fuck is going on? The floor seemed to suddenly leap around 3 feet into the air in a ‘wave’ motion as I tried to keep my balance. I tossed the clothes to the floor that I was holding, and ready to buy, as I dashed for the door to get the hell out of there. Out on the sidewalk in front of the store it was total chaos happening as building debris was falling from high above, and cars on the street were bashing into each other from the force of the earthquake, while car horns were blasting. People seemed to be in a state of panic. I will never forget that moment as I tried to walk fast from there to make my way home. On the way home, I could hear some firemen along the way loudly exclaim to each other that the Bay Bridge has collapsed, as their fire truck was sitting still, tied up in traffic on Broadway St. It felt like the end of the world must be happening at that moment, and I later learned that a person died from the quake in a building next door to where I resided. Many people slept outside that night next door, afraid of more quakes, and building shaking. A few days later my friend (Jimmy) and I went to the collapsed Cypress Freeway one evening. The first responders were still searching for live people, or bodies under the collapsed freeway at the time. With all the ‘blazing bright lights’ turned on to light up the collapsed freeway that evening, it all seemed very surreal, as though it was some kind of a strange dream occurring. Fast forward 37 years later. Here it is 37 years later in Oakland, and reportedly FEMA is telling states to handle disasters on their own! Reportedly, “Cameron Hamilton, the current administrator of the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), recently told state officials at the National Emergency Management Association’s annual meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas, that they would need to allocate resources to respond to most disasters without help from the federal government.”

Additionally, reportedly, “Trump has instituted dramatic cuts to FEMA that have hampered its response to disasters. When Texas faced floods last year that killed at least 138 people, for example, the administration’s spending restrictions delayed FEMA’s deployment of search-and-rescue teams for more than 72 hours, while lapsed call-center contracts left thousands of survivors’ calls for assistance unanswered.

While cutting its workforce, Trump has suggested FEMA is “very bureaucratic” and “very slow” and has floated shutting the agency down entirely, shifting its responsibilities to the states. Yet a FEMA report released Friday found that state disaster agencies are “typically understaffed and underfunded, and many depend heavily on federal assistance.”

Indeed. Here we are in earthquake country, with the “BIG ONE” expected to happen at any time now, and the convicted felon Trump regime and his FEMA henchman Cameron Hamilton wants us to get used to the idea that we are “S-O-L” if we need any help from FEMA, or the federal government after a looming disaster occurs in the future.

This is not what the American people voted for. As I filled out my election ballot yesterday to vote for Prop 40 to tax the billionaires in California, and voted against Prop 39, Trump’s proposition to make it nearly impossible for people to vote, I felt exhilarated. I felt like I was voting with a vengeance and retribution, against all the wrongs of the Trump regime, including his many attacks against the environment, and environmental laws meant to save our lives.

That’s right. As climate change is ravaging the planet locally, across the nation, and in countries all around the world, the convicted felon President Donald J. Trump, and his DOGE henchman Elon Musk, have been busy destroying FEMA, and most other federal agencies that used to assist the American public. They have been ripping off the federal government as fast as they can with their corrupt schemes meant to enrich themselves, and their billionaire friends by shredding environmental regulations meant to protect the public, endangered species, and the environment.

Reportedly in the Guardian on October 23, 2026, “Heat killed a record 50,000 people in European cities this summer, new research suggests, with scientists blaming climate breakdown for two in every three of the deaths. Morgues and funeral homes filled with bodies from June to August as the heat added by planet-baking pollution cut short an extra 32,000 lives in urban areas, the researchers found. Hot days pushed vulnerable bodies into overdrive and warm nights prevented them from recovering.”
