Anti-Flock Protest at Moscone Center
Reaction to Flock CEO giving talk on AI, Surveillance and the future of public safety.
(San Francisco, Oct. 14) – The corner of San Francisco’s Howard and 4th Streets was the location of a small but street theater laden demonstration.
The action was prompted by Flock’s CEO giving a talk on AI, surveillance, and the future of public safety. To many, this had all the value of the fox giving a dissertation on chicken coop security.
The demonstrators set up a sound system holding forth on the “advantages” of the thousands of Flock cameras already in operation. Such as: monitoring the movements, travel, and public activities (like shopping) of millions of people, unrelated to any possible suspicious activity.
Flock cameras create massive databases which allow police and their friends to profit by selling such data for tidy “on the side” incomes. It noted that Flock has already been highly hacked with much available on the Russian dark web.
As an example of Flock’s potential for massive violations of rights, it can be used by assorted police to harass women for “shopping while attractive.”
The activists set up poles adorned with many Flock “cameras.” Some demonstrators were disguised as cameras by wearing giant Flock camera head pieces.
Many passers-by among the computer conference types going to conferences were intrigued by what they saw, giving the activists opportunities to discus yet another techno-threat emanating from the billionaire sponsored, soon to be replaced (by AI), computer nerds of silicon valley.
The event was organized by the The Wolves and was sponsored by several groups including Bay Resistance, DeFlock SF, Safety Over Surveillance (SOS) and the Raging Grannies.
