TURIN (10-10) – On the Global Day of Action for Palestine, October 10, in fifty cities across Italy including Torino, Milan, Naples, Bologna, Palermo, Genoa and Rome, tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian activists held demonstrations and marched calling for “La fine del genocidio è la fine del sionismo” (an end to genocide and Zionism.)

The activists included in their demands the immediate disengagement of the Meloni government in its complicity of the continuing genocide in Gaza demanding that it sever its economic, defense and energy ties with Israel.

The demonstration organized by Torino for Gaza, a coalition of 60 local organizations including members from organized labor, demanded an immediate end to the genocide, uninterrupted humanitarian aid, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and an end to the occupation along with that of Zionism.

The march got off to a rough start when pro-Palestinian supporters began their rally at the Piazza Castello on its approved route and were immediately confronted by an overwhelming number of police who blocked their movement. A brief physical confrontation broke out between the police and demonstrators before it was brought under control, by the DIGOS (Divisione Investigazioni Generali e Operazioni Speciali, specialized police division) who intervened to diffuse the confrontation after which the march was rerouted.

The city of Torino has a highly active pro-Palestinian movement that demonstrates frequently in demanding an end to the Gaza genocide and occupation.

An estimated 4,000 and 8,000 marchers concluded their protest with cardboard effigies of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu being physical assaulted and pelted with tomatoes before they were set on fire.
