(San Francisco, September 7) Activists held a “Freedom from Want, Freedom from Fear,” Labor Day rally in front of the Philip Burton Federal building on Golden Gate Ave. The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Seiu, 0501SF, Indivisible and Bay Resistance participated in or endorsed the action. Not since the Civil War has the nation’s survival felt as threatened as it is today by internal anti-democratic forces.
With a President committed to the ethnic cleansing of the non-white, the whitewashing of slavery, and the forcing of women into a condition not much beyond that of farm animals, the cruelty is the point as families are imprisoned, devastated and thousands are deported to countries they have no experience or knowledge of.
For example, inspired by “advisers” Miller and Banon,Trump just signed one of his “executive orders” that limits assistance to only households with “stay at home moms." This attempt to force women into “traditional” roles, i.e., that the only legitimate roles for women are either making dinner or making babies, shows his disdain for gender equality.
The administration had devastated collective bargaining rights for the those federal employees that remain left after hundreds of thousand have been fired under the false claim of “bloat”.
It has stacked the Nation Labor Relation board with anti-union appointees and stacked the courts with anti-union judges.
It has restricted overtime pay, opposed wage increases, and gutted health and safety protections:
Trump has helped insurers reduce coverage and made it easier for pharmaceutical companies to inflate drug prices:
It has consistently sided with corporations against its workers by favoring companies that offshore jobs.
Speeches by representative proclaimed their determination to promote the labor union movement, make sure all can vote and above all, make sure that a rogue government will not attempt, in less than a couple of months, a coup that will dwarf the Jan 6 insurrection.
After speeched participants they held a brief march led by a banner that proclaimed “save our services.”
