Creating Utopia: designing an ideal society

At Lakeview Public Library, 550 El Embarcadero, Oakland

Question: What should a truly livable city block look like?

Assignment #1- draw a single city block where you would most enjoy living. Include: housing, cooking areas, toilets, public & private space, transportation, nature, community interaction.

Assignment #2 - each participant presents their drawing, explaining a) What’s here? b) Why does it make life better? c) Who is this best designed for?

Assignment #3 - what societal policies would your ideal community have? What would be the structure of economy, the governance, the education, and the relationships?

Assignment #4 - what should a truly livable village of 3,000 people look like? Participants put their blocks and political concepts together and add additional ones, if needed.
