Location Details:
Limekiln and Coral Streets, Santa Cruz, and the surrounding area, depending on police fancies.
Cops posted notice of a property-destroying sweep on the survival shelters (tents, blankets, and backpacks) of the unhoused community on Coral St.on Monday the 3rd threatening a destructive sweep Thursday morning August 6th at 8 AM.
The "clean 'em up/ clean 'em out" cop raid is again targeting the shrinking number of disabled, elderly, and weakened people surviving on Coral St.without beneift of access to water, electricity, food, or toilet (even portapotty) access.
The "laws" being used are 6.36 the Camping Services and Standards act requiring encampments to move every 96 hours (but giving them no legal place tom ove to) and an ancient anti-black vagrancy ordinance forbiding "lodging" without the "consent of the owner". All this on supposedly public land.
Bring phones, cameras, vehicles, trash bags, and friends. Organizers arrive around 7 AM. Cops usually an hour or two later.
Police in the Monday sweep were reportedly less brutal than usual when faced with the demand for Disasbility Accomoodations. However, those trying to cross into the "forbidden" area were still threatened with citation and/or arrest, reportedly hampering community assistance efforts
