The Yaasuf are a proud sub-clan of the Abaskuul Jidwaaq. They live in the fertile Dhagaxle district of the Fafan Zone in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Known as resilient agro-pastoralists, they rely on farming and cattle herding to thrive in this productive region. The Land of DhagaxleThe Dhagaxle area is famous for its rich soil and reliable rains. This makes it a perfect place for farming and raising livestock. The Yaasuf people use this to their advantage. They grow crops to feed their families and communities.Farmers of the SoilFarming is a big part of daily life for the Yaasuf in Dhagaxle. They grow grains like sorghum and maize. They also grow seasonal vegetables. The fertile land allows them to produce good harvests year after year. The farmers work hard to clear the land, plant seeds, and bring in the crops. This farming tradition helps feed the local area and builds a strong economy.Cattle HerdersIn addition to farming, the Yaasuf are skilled cattle herders. They raise large herds of cattle, along with sheep and goats. Herding provides the community with meat, milk, and hides. The cattle graze on the natural pastures around Dhagaxle. During dry seasons, the herders move their livestock to find fresh grass and water. This movement keeps the animals healthy and strong.Community LifeThe Yaasuf people have a deep connection to their land. Their way of life combines farming and herding. This mix of work helps them survive even when the weather changes. Families work together in the fields and with the animals. They share traditions, stories, and skills from one generation to the next.
