Support the Safer Beauty Bill Package - 15 July 2026

by Irucka Embry
"The Safer Beauty Bill Package builds on the progress made through the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 by closing critical gaps in federal cosmetic safety law. Together, the bills would ban 18 of the most hazardous chemicals used in cosmetics, strengthen protections for communities disproportionately exposed to harmful chemicals, improve ingredient transparency, and increase supply chain transparency so companies can make safer products. Congress needs to hear from the communities you represent, and your voice can help make that happen."

Irucka Embry, of EcoC²S, requests that you send a “pre-written digital letter” to your US Congressional Representatives to ask that they support the Safer Beauty Bill Package today: Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

“The Safer Beauty Bill Package builds on the progress made through the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 by closing critical gaps in federal cosmetic safety law.”

“The Safer Beauty for All national coalition envisions a future where beauty is defined not just by appearance, but by safety, transparency, and respect for health.

“The federal Safer Beauty Bill Package lays out the foundation for that future—one where no one has to choose between self-care and safety.

“This is more than a policy proposal—it’s a necessary intervention in a growing public health crisis. With cancer on the rise, we now have the opportunity to act decisively to protect millions of people from daily chemical exposures through their beauty and personal care products.”

You can read and sign the letter on the following Web page:

Irucka also requests that we, especially his fellow designers and STEM folks, work to redesign our systems so that we prevent problems rather than solving them while creating new issues at the same time. Specifically with regards to product design, below is a quote from Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things By William McDonough and Michael Braungart [2002, ISBN 978-0-86547-587-8] that provides lofty design goals:

“Products that, when their useful life is over, do not become useless waste but can be tossed onto the ground to decompose and become food for plants and animals and nutrients for soil; or, alternatively, that can return to industrial cycles to supply high-quality raw materials for new products”

In order to inspire us to rethink, reimagine, and reFeel the world that we design, I want to share 2 of my Web pages below:
