Right now, the Trump fascist regime has surged the largest U.S. military force to the Middle East since George W. Bush’s 2003 invasion of Iraq, including “dozens of refueling tankers… more than 50 additional fighter jets, and two aircraft carrier strike groups, complete with their accompanying destroyers, cruisers and submarines,” according to the New York Times. Many of these planes and ships can fire nuclear weapons.

COUP 53 is a historical documentary about four days in August 1953 which turns into a live investigation, taking the filmmakers into uncharted cinematic waters. The roots of Iran's volatile relationship with America and Britain has never been so forensically and dramatically exposed.

In 1951, during an upsurge of protest against British colonialism, Iran’s popular, elected prime minister, Mohammad Mossadegh had nationalized Britain’s Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. Britain had plundered Iran’s oil wealth for decades. Two years later, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) along with British intelligence launched a military coup overthrowing Mossadegh and installing the tyrannical and pro-imperialist Shah of Iran in 1953.

While making this documentary the Iranian director Taghi Amirani and editor Walter Murch discovered never seen before archive material that brings to light explosive revelations about dark secrets buried for 67 years.

The cold-blooded maneuvering by the US and Britain foreshadows the urgent moment we are facing today with the US building up its military in striking range of Iran as they threaten attacks.
