Susan Burgess-Lenan is an author, veteran international aid worker, and public speaker based in Oakland. She directed programs in Darfur, helped support Red Cross teams during the Rwanda genocide, and later founded Women’s Centers International to serve women affected by conflict and poverty. She holds a BA in Business Management along with certifications in humanitarian law and disaster response. Her extensive global work shapes her award-winning fiction, as well as previously building a respected media career in television news.
