Come along on a FREE walking tour trekking through San Francisco's Gold Rush Century--the 19th. The walk walks back in time--1898 to 1804--uncovering the sources of THE AMERICAN DREAM as a meme and culture, which, the walk's narrative posits, resides in the mythos of The Frontier.

The Frontier as a mythos is the notion of a hard-won paradise regained, of an Eden where there is no boss, no landlord, no subjugator. Yet this fantasyland requires constantly excluding others from the reality-land that has been settled by the pioneer. That exclusion of others is often violent and always detrimental to others in an equality of opportunity once the seeming infinitude of the Earth is reduced to "Nowhere else to go except into the landowner's loving embrace."

Still, the walk argues, the Frontier in all its social wholesomeness can be rediscovered if only the economic value of land itself is treated as a commonwealth.

Two hours, half a mile, US history turned on its head, and Voila'! the Frontier restored.
