What we are experiencing as a people right now is not new.

The irony of the language used in political spaces to legitimize and affirm the fear- and hate-based movements around human rights and our identities -- e.g., voting rights, abortions, queerness, Black and Brown bodies, or existence -- is not lost on us. They want to protect some at the expense of others, and this is being coded as "fairness" and "respectful disagreements," and this narrative has grown insidiously effective.

These policies, laws, and practices are coded as “protecting” our kids, people, society. Yet, these are deceptive tactics upholding the power and privilege of some while devaluing the lived and real experiences of marginalized people.

We collectively are experiencing the stripping of rights and silencing tactics that have been used for decades.

--How do we as a people engage in these times?

--How do we show up for ourselves and each other?

We don't have all the answers, and we ask that everyone join us in collectively grappling with what is happening in our country and abroad.
