Attend a of discussion a social philosophy that upends conventional notions of socialism and capitalism.

World football (or most any game) is about controlling the field . . . with speed, dexterity (with both feet), and intention. It's about full-on competition, capitalizing on opportunities made and surrendered. It's not about claiming part of the field as off-limits to the opposition; instead, it's about opening the field to any other ensemble to dominate the space based on speed, dexterity, and intention.

World football is a worthy metaphor for justice in this respect: you have to prove yourself every game. The trophy gets lifted when you've again and again won the field by "paying the price" of practice and conditioning.

Formidable justice is the sort that includes every soul getting its time on the field. In this case, the field is planet Earth. Formidable justice is no one getting to say parts of "the field" are off-limits to others (without due compensation for the forsworn opportunity to use it). Formidable justice is getting to use parts of the Earth because you've paid the value of that part to the rest of humanity it doesn't occupy. That value isn't a one-time thing (the way most folks conceive say, reparations to be a one-time). The value of the Earth to humanity is what people, aggregately, will give up/sacrifice in order to secure use of it year after year. You can measure that sacrifice in rent paid, blood spilled, or resilience to being held in opprobrium.

In a one hour give-and-take presentation, The Commons SF will expand on the World football metaphor to introduce a perspective that simultaneously reconciles the best impulses of socialism and capitalism, and deep-sixes the worst outcomes of conventional socialism and capitalism.
