Defend democratic elections at Pacifica Radio

by Pacifica Fight Back
Pacifica Fight Back has launched a petition campaign to force Pacifica station managers to follow the election bylaws and put the Local Station Board candidates on the air. At KPFA the management has instead told members to go to youtube to hear the candidates.

Defend democratic elections at Pacifica Radio

Pacifica Fightback started this petition to ed [at] pacifica.org and 2 others
Pacifica Foundation and its five radio stations are failing to live up to their commitment to democracy and the requirement in their Bylaws to allow listeners to hear from and question candidates for listener delegates live on the air of the radio stations. The bylaws mandate: "All candidates for election as a Listener-Sponsor Delegate shall be given equal opportunity for equal air time, which air time shall include time for a statement by the candidate and a question and answer period with call-in listeners."
This has not happened. Harm is already being done to the candidates' right to be heard on the air, and to the listeners' right to hear them and to be able to call in with questions. The ballots have already been sent out and at most stations no such on-air opportunities have been provided for either the candidates' statements or the listeners' call-ins and questions regarding the candidates' views.
Immediately schedule as many on-air forums with live listener call-ins as necessary at each station to accommodate all the listener candidates with equal opportunity for airing live with listener call-ins in various time slots and day parts, as well as on weekends. Candidate carts must also air, and the schedule must be posted on the front of the stations' websites, and announced on the air.

§KPFA Business Manager Maria Negret Pushing Youtube For Info At KPFA

KPFA business manager under KPFA manager Quincy McCoy has been pushing youtube to get information on the election. At the KPFA press conference to call for debates on the air she left the station to pass out flyers telling people to go to youtube if they wanted information on the KPFA election. She and KPFA manager McCoy have refused to put the KPFA Local Station Board candidates on the air although this is required by the bylaws of Pacifica. This is not the first time they have tried to manipulate an election. They refused to allow debates on their two corporate bylaw proposals that they supported so listeners and members could get different points of view. This manipulation of the democratic election process needs to be challenged.
