As the world reacted with horror to the events developing in the wake of the official US withdrawal from Afghanistan, many people in the Bay Area have asked for tangible ways to help. The Bay Area, especially communities in the East Bay, is uniquely connected to Afghanistan as a home-away-from-home to one of the largest Afghan diasporas in the US, where many resettled after both the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 as well as after 9/11.
So, what can we do? And what do we owe the Afghan people?
On August 24, at noon, join us for a virtual town hall about how to give back to the Afghan community here and abroad. We’ve invited members of the Bay Area Afghan community and those driving resettlement efforts in the Bay Area to lead the discussion.
They will tell us about ongoing relief projects, fundraising, and what we can do to support our new neighbors.
