Play The KPFA Local Station Candidate Debates On the Air! Youtube Won't Do
A press conference was held in front of KPFA in Berkeley to demand that they play on the air the Local Station Board candidates which are taking place. The business manager interrupted the press conference and put out a notice saying that people should go to youtube to hear the debates.
KPFA local station board candidates and others spoke and sang about the need for KPFA to play the 2021 election candidate debates on the air which is required by the bylaws. They also talked about the failure of management and the "KPFA Protectors" group to do their jobs including evaluating shows and the board also evaluating the manager. During the press conference KPFA business manager Maria Negret came out and put a sign up saying that if they wanted to hear the debates they should go to youtube. She also blamed the national election supervisor Renee Asteria-Peñaloza for preventing the debates from being on the air.
Candidates at the press conference also discussed the needs for KPFA to have more community programming and opposition to the unilateral cancelling of programming without any evaluations or collaboration with the Local Station Board. Their slate Rescue Pacifica calls for a program council to be re-established to allow new programming and do the evaluations of programs which is not being done by the present station management.
This press conference took place on 8/17/21 and voting started on 8/16/21 without the members having had the opportunity to hear the candidates before they voted.

§Hope for a fair debate
Hope that no one gets smeared in absentia or tries to sway the election with malicious falsehood.

§Stop Supporting Redbaiting
Aki Tanaka who supported the corporatization of Pacifica with a new board run in part with him is not worried about being smeared. This is very strange since when his "New Day" were smearing the opponents of the corporate bylaw proposals he was strangely silent. They publicly stated that there was a take-over of Pacifica by the Greens and Workers World Party. Tanaka who himself is a member of the Green Party was strangely silent about this red baiting by his supporters. Apparently his concern about democracy elections is highly questionable.
