Why we need to fight against child hunger
Child hunger is still an ongoing issue that we can't ignore. A majority of these children come from impoverished Latin communities.
Malnourished, hungry, and homeless children are widespread in the US. No child deserves to go hungry. More than ever children are worried about when their next meal will be, this should be the least of their worries especially at young age. This is a basic need that everyone deserves yet some still face nutritional deprivement on a regular basis.
According to Feeding America, this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, 13 million children - 1 in every 6 kids – often do not know where they will get their next meal. Majority of those children come from Latin communities who face food insecurity. A big factor of this issue is that Latin communities face racial prejudice, and barriers such as language, culture, and education.
Children who face hunger are more likely to develop health conditions such as asthma and anemia. By making programs more accessible to impoverished communities, and those who face homelessness, we can ensure that children won’t have to experience the worry of not knowing when their next meal will be.
