USA Allowing Mentally Ill to Buy and Use Guns
We have had 2 mentally ill people in 2 weeks engage in massacres, using guns they bought recently with no background checks. There are now 400 million guns in civilian hands in the USA, a country of 332 million people. Most of the guns are unregistered. The USA is the worst in the world in gun ownership with 120 guns per capita. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estimated_number_of_civilian_guns_per_capita_by_country

Gun ownership is primarily among men and in rural areas. See https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/gun-ownership-by-state
Almost 20,000 people died from gun violence last year, the worst in 20 years. See https://www.democracynow.org/2021/3/25/headlines/nearly_20_000_died_in_gun_violence_in_us_in_2020_as_gun_sales_jumped_by_64
A gun registry of all guns in civilian hands, background checks to block all mentally ill people from owning guns and banning assault weapons being sold to civilians are good starts at gun control. Everyone who applies to purchase a gun of any kind should be required to undergo a psychiatric exam. The solution is to ban all guns in civilian hands, in the hands of the police and prison guards, abolish the death penalty and abolish the military, which only exists to maximize the profits of the munitions makers and oil companies. We have had enough of the horror of gun violence. We did the marches and the protests. A government that refuses to implement serious gun control is a government that does not serve our interests.

Today's White House Press Corps did not bother to ask Biden anything about gun control, the COVID19 pandemic, COVID19 vaccinations or the economy, the issues that matter to most Americans, as they should. Instead, they babbled about the 2024 election when most of us are still recovering from the 2020 election and hardly know what will happen next month in terms of gun violence, reopening and full employment, ending the need for millions to obtain food at food banks. They also chatted about immigration, Afghanistan, North Korea, and on and on. You can see and hear the whole thing at https://www.c-span.org/video/?510139-1/president-biden-holds-news-conference
