The Venerable Thupten Donyo of the Buddhist Gyuto Monastery in Richmond, CA. has a sister foundation called Delek Children's Foundation based in Richmond as well. His foundation focuses on Himalayan children in the isolated villages in the regions in India, Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal.

Since 2009 Donyo has been both the Founder & Director of the Delek Children's Foundation is centered on the healthcare and education for Himalayan child in rural isolated villages. Donyo states: " I may not be back as human being in my next life, so I want to be meaningful in this life."

From donations he collects each year, Donyo clothes and feeds hundreds of children in the high Himalayan mountains close to Mountain Everest. He supplies these vulnerable children with school uniforms, shoes, back packs, school supplies for their educationalong with sorely needed food and healthcare.

The DCF will help Himalayan children is a charitable nonprofit organization dedicated to providing children in need with education and health care throughout the Himalayan regions of India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, irrespective of their ethnicity and national boundaries. Donyo says: " We are hoping to educate as many children as possible."

The DCF states: 'This is a way you can help support Himalayan children who might otherwise be unable to continue their education, find employment & contribute to their communities. Sponsorship of a student is just one way for you to be involved. Donations of all kinds are needed & gratefully accepted.'

The goal is to raise the standard of living there and to create opportunity for future
generations. The success of these children will touch the lives of those in their communities
& bring hope to other children and their families.

DCF is dedicated to making sure that mountain youth graduate from high school and have the ability to attend college. Most of the DCF colleges graduates go into the health professions and return back to their villages to be medical professionals.

It is a fact that most mountain villages do not have access to medical facilities, therefore, villagers must forego treatment because medical aid in insufficient. Transportation is also a major problem for the villagers. As a result, the young & elderly needlessly die without receiving proper medical treatment.

Food insecurity in Northwest Tibetan villages is a major problem as well. Villagers survive by subsistence farming of corn & potatoes on the steep mountain slopes. Because of the remote & isolated location of where villages are located, it makes acquiring other food difficult. Inadequate nutrition, primitive sanitation, and harsh climate make villagers more vulnerable to illnesses which typically they cannot afford to treat. DCF is on the front lines ensuring families and
their children receive food.

THE DELEK CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION
is a charitable 501 (c) (3) organization.
