The KPFA LSB Special Meeting is ON!

by longtime KPFA supporter
This notice is for a Special Meeting of the KPFA Local Station Board, the correct time of which is Thursday April 30 at 11:00 am, on Zoom (information is below). The LSB cancelled its March meeting but unlike other Pacifica stations did not reschedule with remote attendance. The UIR faction majority leaders have tried to cancel this meeting, but it is still scheduled! (see KPFTx.org).
Your Rescue Pacifica-affiliated board members are setting a teleconference LSB meeting (on Zoom) as all the other stations have done, to fulfill the bylaws requirement of meeting no less than every 60 days. It has been longer than that now, so even though we do not know if members of the UIR group will attend, we plan to hold this remote convening to talk about crucial issues and to hear from all of you, prior to the one currently scheduled for May 16. Since the number of the LSB delegates who expressed opposition to this via email was not a majority, we have scheduled a meeting for Thursday, April 30 at 11am, and announced it on http://www.KPFTx.org .

Please join us if you can and help us to guide our work and be of service to you.

Proposed agenda:
--Roll call
--Ground rules
--Approve minutes of January 11 meeting
--Public comment
--KPFA General Manager's report with Q and A
--COVID-19 updates, including Pacifica COVID-19 programming taskforce
--Report to listeners on the outcome of the bylaws election
--Property tax update and financial report
--Begin process for evaluation of the General Manager
--KPFA membership management, tracking and reminder notices for annual dues

If we have an LSB quorum in attendance on April 30, we will proceed with the meeting. If not, we will turn it into an informal town hall type discussion.

Frank Sterling is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
Time: Apr 30, 2020 11:00 AM Pacific Time (US and Canada)

More news
The alternative Bylaws were defeated by 2/3ds of the Pacifica-wide listeners and staff voting No, according to the certified results published on March 23d.
See the election information and results at https://elections.pacifica.org/wordpress/ , a brief summary is below.
Rescue Pacifica thanks the Pacifica community of listeners and staff for their decision to continue the Pacifica network as a democratically run, diverse network, locally based, dedicated to presenting the unvarnished truths in this time of increased corporate attempts to control the informational and political systems of our country. The proposed alternative bylaws could have been a part of this move to the right even at our stations, but thanks to the efforts of many to work together to get the information out, and the understanding of our electorate, this did not happen! Thanks to you all for this bright spot in our milieu!

Now we have a chance to mend the flaws in our governance system, and we look forward to a Bylaws Convention where we work out true solutions to our financial and governance problems, free of unnecessary fears that we can't pull back from the brink of disaster - because we just have!
Go to the Pacifica elections website to remind yourselves of this!

And we invite those who were looking forward to solving our problems with the proposed bylaws which were rejected, to please accept the results and help to work constructively with renewed efforts to improve Pacifica's governance and provide a model for true and effective democracy in action. #####

And an update to the KPFA property tax situation can be found at
http://PacificaInExile.org/archives/3013 . Briefly, critical requirements have been met, KPFA property is not up for auction, and the amount due is in negotiation.
