SFUSD Board & Superintendent Matthews Cutting $300,000 From MLK Middle School While Spending $850,000 To Censor GWHS Arnautoff Murals

The San Francisco Unified School District Board and superintendent Vincent Matthews are seeking to cut $300,000 from the largely minority and poor student population of Martin Luther King Middle School. This is not the first. attack on this school. In March, the MLK school had to take additional cuts and in 2012 the principal at that time gave away the band instruments and the music and art classes were shut down while the STEM program was instituted.

The principal with the backing of the district also bullied and removed 17 teachers and staff of the school and engaged in criminal cover-up of the principal trying improperly restrain an Afrian American special education student. The district management covered it up and went after a security aid who was a whistleblower.

This action by Superintendent Vincent Matthews and his rubber stamp board is taking place one month after the board on 8/13/18 voted to spend $850,000 to cover-up and censor the George Washington High Victor Arnautoff murals.

Vincent Matthews had previously when he trustee of the Oakland Unified School District shut down Black and Latino schools while pushing more privatization, charters and consultants.

None of these clowns belong near a place of education. They are nothing more than book burners. While cowardly placating a small but loud group of whiners shouting that their children are "traumatized" by murals that are in one part of the largest high school in San Francisco, my alma mater, they failed to present one counselor to testify about said trauma. They also failed to share with the public that over 98% of the written comments they received about their proposal to whitewash murals was against their fascist conduct. Nor did they poll the studentbody or the alumni association. Why should anyone be surprised that they then authorized the expenditure of $800,000 to hide history from high school students while denying children of color $300,000 for their education? Who is more traumatic, my friends - the cowards on the school board or an artist who wanted our children to know a more factual history of our nation's first president?
