On Thursday April 11, Julian Assange, age 47, the founder of Wikileaks was arrested at the Embassy of Ecuador in London by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) after the Ecuadorian government’s withdrawal of asylum for Assange.
According to a release from the Metropolitan Police, world famous publisher, political activist and whistle blower, Julian Assange, was arrested on a warrant issued by Westminster Magistrates’ Court dating back to June 29, 2012, for failure to surrender to the court.
The Metropolitan Police claim, “He has been taken into custody at a central London police station where he will remain, before being presented before Westminster Magistrates' Court as soon as is possible.
The MPS had a duty to execute the warrant, on behalf of Westminster Magistrates' Court, and was invited into the embassy by the Ambassador, following the Ecuadorian government's withdrawal of asylum.”
