From SPAIN- Hundreds of thousands of Spaniards took to the streets on International Womens Day- as the far-right rises in Spain there is worry that modern progress in gender equality may be revoked. Former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont, living in exile in Brussels, will run for a seat in the European Parliament in May.

From JAPAN- There were memorial services across Japan on the eighth anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster- 50,000 citizens remain evacuated, and there has been little success at restoring the area. The head of the nuclear authority has urged his staff to speak up if they think nuclear safety is at risk. A study has found that forests contain most of the radioactive cesium released during the nuclear power plant meltdown. The North Korean state-run website say the country remains committed to denuclearization and peaceful reunification of the Koreas, but that some sanctions need to be relaxed now. Donald Trump presented a 2020 budget that calls for more military spending and reductions in foreign aid and social support programs.

From CUBA- The Trump 2020 budget proposal calls for cuts to Latin American aid but a includes $500 million to the State Department to fund intervention in Venezuela. A NYT report confirmed that the Venezuelan forces were not guilty of burning trucks of humanitarian aid at the Colombian border on February 23. The electrical grid in Venezuela has been hit by multiple cyberattacks, which the government says was done with the full knowledge of US Senator Marco Rubio and Mike Pompeo. The US is pressuring India to stop buying oil from Venezuela to provoke regime change.

From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi reviewed some press with Nick Dearden, director of Global Justice Now. They cover Elizabeth Warren and Facebook, Macron's decision to use government violence against Yellow Vest protestors, and UK fears of being forced to accept US manufactured food if Brexit occurs.
