City Council meeting

The looming threat of development hangs over the Concord Skate Park. The park has been an important piece of community life, for skaters, scooter riders, stunt bicyclists, and the general public.

At the next city council meeting, people can speak in favor of preserving the skate park, during the public comment period at the start of the meeting.

In addition to saving the skate park, the city should work with BART to add more amenities to the strip of land between Monument and San Miguel. Adjacent to the skate park could be food gardens, and other community oriented assets for Concord's growing population. There are other lots in the city of Concord more suitable for housing and business, instead of using this parcel.

The BART housing bill (Assembly Bill 2923) did not take into account the need for parks, and didn't take into account existing structures such as the Concord Skate Park. The rush to build housing near transit shouldn't come at a cost to recreational spaces.
