Wildfire risk and severity has increased dramatically over the last decade throughout the West as a direct result of human-made climate change. While drier conditions make the region more vulnerable, faulty PG&E infrastructure has been linked to last year's North Bay fires as well as the recent Butte County fire. Instead of the government protecting the residents of California and taking public control of the statewide utility company, Gov. Brown passed SB 901 last year capping the amount a corporation can be held liable for disasters like the recent fires. Not only are capitalist industries responsible for the majority of pollution that has caused the climate crisis, they are also protected from any culpability even when proven guilty of negligence that caused the destruction entire communities.

Join us for a socialist analysis of how the system protects corporate profits over people and discuss how we can continue to build the movement for socialism where the needs of society and the planet are the priority.

Also, hear an update from Gloria La Riva on the struggle of the refugee caravan of asylum seekers at the Mexico border. She traveled with the caravan through Mexico last month.
