In the wake of Bolsonaro's election victory...

"It’s a shame that the Brazilian cavalry hasn’t been as efficient as the Americans, who exterminated the [U.S.] Indians" – Jair Bolsonaro, President-elect of Brazil
Hi everyone,

I wish I was writing under happier circumstances. You might have already seen that Jair Bolsonaro was victorious in Brazil's recent presidential election. His racist views represent the gravest threat to Brazil’s tribal peoples in decades.

Here at Survival International, we've worked with countless Brazilian tribes to fight for their lives and lands since 1969. We wouldn’t have achieved anything without our supporters. Now, we're getting ready for the fight of our lives.

I hope you will all stand with us.

In response to this urgent humanitarian crisis we have made a pledge to our indigenous friends.

We promise to:
– Stand in solidarity by amplifying indigenous voices on the global stage.
– Mount defences against attacks on their rights and their lives.
– Vigorously oppose the roll back of indigenous land rights.

There are many ways you can help us fulfil our pledge.

– Like, comment, share. Help us amplify indigenous voices in the digital age and bring these issues to the forefront of the global conversation via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
– Ask your friends to join this mailing list. We’ll send updates and our latest action campaigns, so please stay tuned.
– Become a monthly donor.
We accept no government funding or dodgy corporate money to guarantee we're free to act only in the interests of tribal peoples. Knowing we can rely on your regular donation in the months ahead allows us to plan our campaigns more ambitiously and effectively for the long term.

In 1969, Survival was founded as a response to the genocide of Amazon Indians. Back then many people predicted that tribal peoples in Brazil would soon be “extinct.” For some tribes, the prediction came true. But as we approach our 50th anniversary, many are still here, and are thriving in those places where their lands are protected. But genocide is rearing its ugly head once more.

It's a bleak time for our indigenous friends in Brazil, and all of us watching around the world. But we're optimistic, and with your help, we'll never give up.

Yours in solidarity,
