November 1 - 4, San Francisco November 17, Palo Alto Thurs Nov 1, New People, SF Fri Nov 2, Castro Theater, SF Sat Nov 3, New People, SF Sun Nov 4, New People, SF Sat Nov 17, Palo Alto Art Center, Palo Alto Come celebrate 3rd i's sixteenth annual SF International South Asian Film Festival with some of the best cinema from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Canada, Australia, and the USA. Staking claim to two-thirds of our program, women filmmakers dominate this year’s line-up, their films addressing a plethora of issues ranging from homelessness and domestic violence, to comic book and real-life superheroes. Documentaries abound as well, featuring sex-positive advice columnists and probing filmmakers who battle the rising tide of fundamentalism and censorship in both India and Pakistan. This year, we explore the theme of healing, of confronting the fears that haunt our memories – personal and collective, and the importance of dialogue - sometimes even with the enemy. We bring a focus on the Northeast of India, with two films that reverberate full of the polyphonic music of Nagaland, and the rockstar dreams of a young girl from Assam. We offer Bollywood two ways: one a blast from the industry’s sultry Jewish past, and the other more recent, smolders and sizzles across Paris! As always local filmmakers shine bright, as do voices from the diverse South Asian Diaspora. For expanded program and ticketing information, please visit: www.thirdi.org
