Veterans for Peace present
Sailing for a Nuclear-Free World

In 1958, a 30 ft wooden ketch with a crew of pacifists tried to sail into the nuclear test zone in the Pacific to prevent atmospheric nuclear weapons testing. The Coast Guard intervened and arrested the crew, but their courage ignited a movement that led to the nuclear test ban treaty. That ketch was named The Golden Rule, and it began a long tradition of direct action on the high seas including the Phoenix of Hiroshima, Greenpeace, the Sea Shepherds, and the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.
Now fully restored by Veterans for Peace, The Golden Rule is making waves again as it sails the globe to spread the word about the continuing dangers of nuclear war. This September, the Golden Rule will visit the Bay Area as the first stop on its voyage to Hawaii, Guam, Okinawa, Korea, and Japan with its message of a world free of nuclear weapons. (See other side for info.)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN RULE
Sailing for a Nuclear Free World
In 1958, a 30 ft wooden ketch with a crew of pacifists tried to sail into the nuclear test zone in the Pacific to prevent atmospheric nuclear weapons testing.
Now fully restored by Veterans for Peace, The Golden Rule is making waves again as it sails the globe to spread the word about the continuing dangers of nuclear war. and nuclear power, and the poisoning of the air, water and soil from the entire nuclear cycle, from uranium mining to the disposal of nuclear waste. In doing so, The Golden Rule will give a platform to local activists who are concerned about threats to the environment from war, nuclear weapons, fossil fuels, and so much more.
This September, the Golden Rule will visit the San Francisco Bay Area as the first stop on its voyage to Hawaii, Guam, Okinawa, Korea, and Japan with its message of a world free of nuclear weapons. For more information, see:
