From GERMANY- The heat waves and drought in many parts of the world are affecting countries in northern Europe. Alpine glaciers are melting and the absence of rain is ruining agriculture in numerous areas of the world. This story focuses on farmers who expect long term damage from the drought, which most scientists attribute to climate change.

From CUBA- Venezuela is attempting to counter hyperinflation by releasing a new currency called the sovereign Bolivar. The UN Human Rights Committee has ruled that imprisoned former president Lula da Silva cannot be disqualified from the upcoming election because his legal appeals are ongoing. In the favelas of Rio de Janeiro military and police killed at least 14 during drug raids. Munitions experts confirmed that the bomb that killed 40 children on a school bus in Yemen was supplied to the Saudis by the US. Russian foreign minister Lavrov says the US refusal to participate in the reconstruction of war-torn Syria is aimed to slow down the return of refugees. Trump has showed renewed interest in privatizing the war in Afghanistan with former Blackwater founder Eric Prince. Prisoners across the US have begun a strike to protest underpaid prison labor, the lack of rehabilitation opportunities, and excessive sentences.

From RUSSIA- George Galloway interviewed financial journalist and broadcaster Phil Dobbie about sanctions. Are the unilateral US sanctions a form of warfare, and will they resolve problems or have a net effect of harming Americans?

From JAPAN- A new round of US tariffs on China came into effect this week and China responded in kind. The Japanese foreign minister encouraged more countries to join a treaty banning the export and import of conventional weapons. The Japanese Defense Ministry is requesting a record high budget for next year, much of it for US produced missiles and aircraft. The International Committee of the Red Cross urged Japan to join the UN treaty banning nuclear weapons. At the Asian games in Indonesia an event was held to raise awareness of the unification of the Koreas.
