Vote ‘Yes’ on Proposition 10 to repeal extreme Costa Hawkins Act in November

by Lynda Carson (tenantsrule [at] yahoo.com)
Renters throughout the State of California are being forced out of their housing, and displaced from their communities by extreme rent increases, the eviction-for-profit system, and gentrification schemes. A ‘Yes” vote in November for Proposition 10 would help to stabilize communities, and bring back the reasonable rent control options needed to protect renters, families with children, and the working class being priced out of housing options!
Vote ‘Yes’ on Proposition 10 to repeal extreme Costa Hawkins Act in November

Vote 'Yes' on Proposition 10 (the Affordable Housing Act,) next November to repeal the draconian Costa Hawkins Act, an extreme 1995 state law that severely limits cities’ rent control options to protect renters from greedy landlords, realtors, and developers.

Renters throughout the State of California are being forced out of their housing, and displaced from their communities by extreme rent increases, the eviction-for-profit system, and gentrification schemes. A ‘Yes” vote in November for Proposition 10 would help to stabilize communities, and bring back the reasonable rent control options needed to protect renters, families with children, and the working class being priced out of housing options.

Regarding Proposition 10, according to the office of the Secretary of State: “In accordance with California law, provides that rent-control policies may not violate landlords’ right to a fair financial return on their rental property.”

That's right. A ‘Yes” vote on Proposition 10 in November, is a reasonable option for renters and landlords.

Last Thursday, June 28, Secretary of State, Alex Padilla, certified the measure known as the Affordable Housing Act, a measure to repeal the draconian Costa Hawkins Act, for the November ballot. The following day on Friday, June 29, the Secretary of State assigned the number Proposition 10 to the measure known as the the Affordable Housing Act.

Big money opposes Proposition 10, a reasonable ballot measure to repeal the Costa Hawkins Act, and has repeatedly been involved in anti-rent control campaigns that have lied to, and have been widely criticized for misleading the voters.

Additional rent control campaigns to protect renters from displacement:

Reportedly, the rent control measure for Santa Cruz has qualified for the November ballot, and the Movement for Housing Justice in Santa Cruz can use all the help they can get.

Additionally, reportedly rent control will most likely be back on the Santa Rosa ballot for next November, in a fierce battle against big money. The North Bay Organizing Project can also use all the help it can get.

There have been rent control campaigns in ten cities in California trying to get rent control ballot measures on the November ballot, and they all need as much help as possible. Even though a few campaigns that may have failed to qualify enough signatures for the November ballot, they still need as much help as is possible to get their rent control measures on a future ballot to protect renters from gentrification schemes.
