Panel – Workplace Racism, Hanging Nooses and Fightback
The escalation of open racist attacks is happening not only in our communities but on our jobs. There is a national epidemic of “hanging nooses” and workplace bullying to terrorize African American workers and other workers on the job. At the same time there is systemic racial discrimination in many industries and in the City and County of San Francisco. This forum will look at these incidents and also why these are not isolated. Panelists will also look at how workers can educate their fellow workers about stopping these attacks and how to organize a national fight-back.
Speakers: Brenda Barros, SEIU 1021 SF General Hospital Chapter Chair and Co-Chair COPE Stacie Rodgers, ILWU Local 10 rank-and-file member Daryle Washington, Former SF Recology Worker & Driver Cheryl Thornton, SEIU 1021 Potrero Hill Health Center Utuma Belfrey, IBEW 6 member Sponsored by United Public Workers For Action http://www.upwa.info/
