Where's Jane Kim? SEIU Members Want Support For SFLC Resolution Against Racism/Retaliation

SEIU 1021 DPH workers spoke out at San Francisco mayoral candidate Jane Kim's campaign office about why she has refused to speak out against systemic racism, workplace bullying and retaliation against SEIU 1021 Potrero Hill Health Center worker Cheryl Thornton. SEIU 1021 members went to the Jane Kim campaign headquarters in San Francisco on June 1, 2018 to call on the mayoral candidate to support the San Francisco Labor Council resolution calling for a campaign against systemic racist discrimination and the return of SEIU 1021 member Cheryl Thornton who had been illegally removed from the Potrero Hill Health Center after she became a whistleblower.

SEIU 1021 members have protested at the Department of Public Health, at San Francisco General Hospital and at the Potrero Hill Health Center. Under the privatization pushed by the City and DPH Director Barbara Garcia and the growing control of SFGH by Zuckerberg take-over.
Jane Kim has also received over $218,000 from SEIU 1021 and the political director of SEIU 1021 Alysabeth Alexander has also been hired in a management position by CCSF.

SFLC Resolution To Oppose Retaliation Against SEIU 1021 Member Cheryl Thornton And Opposition To Workplace Bullying and Racist Discrimination In The City and County Of San Francisco

Whereas, there has been a pattern of discrimination and racism against SEIU 1021 Potrero Hill Health Center Worker Cheryl Thornton and,

Whereas, there has been a pattern of retaliation against whistleblowers and African American workers who work for the city and county of San Francisco and,

Whereas, the right of all workers to have a safe and health environment is critical to all public workers and the public whom they serve and,

Whereas, there is a national epidemic of workplace bullying that harms all working people and,

Whereas, there needs to be an education campaign and political campaign to defend all worker’s rights and stop the bullying on the job and,

Whereas, the City and County of San Francisco has spent tens of millions of dollars to workers who have been bullied by management, illegally discriminated and bullied by management,

Therefore be it resolved the San Francisco Labor Council opposes the discrimination against SEIU 1021 member Cheryl Thornton and calls on DPH Director Barbara Garcia to return her to her job at the Potrero Hill Health Center and,

This council calls on all candidates for Mayor and members of the Board of Supervisors to support the return of Cheryl Thornton to this job and to investigate the systemic racism and workplace bullying in the city and county of San Francisco and,

Finally this council urges all affiliates to support a defense rally and education campaign to defend African American and all workers in the City and County of San Francisco.

Mayoral candidate Jane Kim who is supported by SEIU 1021 with over $218,000 is refusing to publicly speak out against the systemic racism, workplace bullying, terminations and privatization at the Department of Public Health and other city departments.
She has also refused to personally meet with the workers who have been racially harassed and bullied by the management.

The San Francisco Labor Council unanimously passed a resolution demanding an end to the systemic racism, workplace bullying and the illegal retaliation against SEIU 1021 Potrero Hill Health Center worker Cheryl Thornton. No supervisor has endorsed and spoke out on the resolution and Jane Kim who is supported by SEIU 1021 is refusing as well to support the statement or even public mention it.
