On May 23 in San Francisco, CodePink members and allies gathered in front of BlackRock Inc.'s San Francisco office with large banners calling on BlackRock to “Stop Making a Killing on Killing”.
They chanted about BlackRock's investments, with an emphasis on growing a Peace Economy. BlackRock is the top investor in weapons manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics.
Protesters delivered letters to Barney Villa, one of the company's San Francisco based VP's, reminding BlackRock of its commitment to responsible and sustainable investment. At the end of last year, billionaire investor and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink wrote a controversial letter to CEOs urging them to be more socially responsible. BlackRock is the world's largest asset management firm, with $6 trillion in assets under management.
Before leaving the BlackRock office at 400 Howard St., CodePink members chalked the sidewalk with peace and peace economy messages. They demanded that BlackRock stop "making a killing on killing".
