"Connecting The Dots" The SouthWest Airlines OSHA DOL Cover-up, Hunters Point & Wells
WorkWeek radio looks at the cover-up of OSHA complaints against Southwest Airlines by OSHA and the DOL Administrative Law Judges. WorkWeek interviews OSHA whistleblower Darrell Whitman about this scandal and also the ongoing corruption crisis at Hunters Point Shipyard and Wells Fargo bank.
WorkWeek radio interviews former OSHA Whistleblower Protection Program WPP investigator and lawyer Darrell Whitman about the OSHA Administrative Judge cover-up at Southwest Airlines. Whitman reports that there have been 16 seperate complaints filed by SWA mechanics about serious health and safety problems. OSHA dismissed all the complaints and this was appealed to the DOL administrative judge who put the complaints together and made a settlement with the workers lawyer to seal all the complaints to keep them secret and from the public.
Whitman also reports that over the past 18 years there have been 262 separate operational violations with over $17 million in fines. Whitman says that is 14 citations a year and $1 million fine. The mechanics union has also charged the carrier has put passengers in danger by outsourcing large parts of maintenance work. Bret Oestreich, the national director of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association has said that "The truth is there exists a serious concern regarding the degradation of safety within Southwest’s maintenance program as determined by the Federal Aviation Administration."
Whitman also discusses the $1 billion eco-fraud scandal at the Hunters Point shipyard and his work to protect Test America worker Michael Madry and the Wells Fargo cover-up of criminal activity by Wells management and the case of Wells Fargo bank worker Yesenia Guitron.
