Bay Area Workers Rally And Speak Out On May Day 2018-Stop Union Busting And Racist Attacks
ILWU Local 10 longshore workers shutdown the port of Oakland on May 1, 2018 and marched with other workers and community members to Oscar Grant Plaza. Trade unionists talk about why they are rallying on May Day 2018. Also a May Day rally was held at SF City Hall to protest privatization of neighborhood health centers and racist discrimination policies at the DPH and PD. Speakers also talked about the contamination of Hunters Point Shipyard and the poisoning of workers, children and all members of the community.
Workers and trade unionists rallied and spoke out in Oakland and San Francisco on May Day 2018. They protested the war on workers including at Tesla auto plant in Fremont, California where 700 workers were fired to prevent unionization and the increasing police murders and repression. They also discussed the privatization of public services including in the health department of San Francisco at the Potrero Neighborhood Health Center and racist hiring practices. Also a contingent of Tesla workers from the UAW talked about the illegal firings by Elon Musk and Tesla bosses.
