Can we block a march toward war? For the first time in more than half a century, North and South Korea are approaching a cautious rapprochement.

Although President Trump plans to meet with North Korean Premier Kim Jong-Un in May, he has not appointed an ambassador to South Korea, but has appointed notorious wahawks as Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, and continues to issue dire threats of further sanctions and military action.

Under these complex and contradictory conditions, what are the prospects for peace--and how can US progressives pressure our government to pursue them?

Enu-Joung Lee: Design consultant, born in South Korea, emigrated here as a young child, lectures on the impact of elders' silence on the Korean War experience.

Conn M. Hallinan: Columnist for Foreign Policy in Focus, and independent journalist on global affairs, winner of Project Censored Real News Award, and director of UC Santa Cruz journalism program for 23 years.
