Real estate. That's the biggie going on twenty years, well, since 1846, actually. It's what drives local politics . . . whoever controls the rents controls city government. When and where the roads get paved, where the police patrol, where the central subway goes in, who gets the contracts, who gets to build and how.

And yet. And yet none of the current flock of mayoral candidates does more than FLUNK OUT when it comes to addressing the matter of land, power, and morals. None of them call for--as a matter of principle--recovering all of the community-generated land values currently going into private pockets.

Come along on a walking tour that tells it like it is as it surveys two centuries of San Francisco land development and the social movements that rose up in tandem with that development.

FREE, except you'll lose your presuppositions about what to do about resolving the real estate crisis.
