Santa Cruz Benchlands Hooverville to be Permanently Closed Feb 28

The Santa Cruz Parks Department announced that the homeless camp, AKA Hooverville, in the San Lorenzo Park will be permamently closed on 28Feb2018. On previous occassions the Parks Department closed the camp for one day for cleaning. People vacated the camp the evening before the closure. On the morning of the day after the closure, the rangers allowed campers to return. The camp was closed for one day on 11Dec2017, 31Jan2018, and 15Feb2018. This time it appears that campers will not be allowed back. The announcement states: Illegal camping will no longer be allowed after this date. The San Lorenzo Park and the benchlands will return to normal day-time activity and usage Thursday 3/1/2018.Contact the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department for any further use issues, questions, or permission.
