What can I bring? Anything you’d like to give. From clothes that no longer fit to food, books, bikes, toys, games, stories, crafts, services, performances, music, a skill you’d like to share, or anything else that you think would benefit the community. Everything is free: https://focmc.org/events/2018/communityswap
The Community Swap is not just a means of getting things without paying. Participation helps build real community values, demonstrates an alternative to the current system of greed, commodification, competition, and exploitation and helps counter the programming that comes from living in a capitalist society. Folding tables, blankets, and serving ware will definitely be useful, so bring what you'll need. Take what you can use, give thanks, build community, play in the gorgeous park, and remember to cleanup after yourself. If you bring something, you are expected to take away whatever is left at the end. Access Info • The playground is not ADA accessible. • Bathrooms are available. They are single stalls and are wheelchair accessible but the doors have to be opened manually. There is no non-binary option. • There are picnic areas but seating is limited. Please bring a blanket or chair as needed. • Parking is in a residential area and free but limited. There is one wave rack for bike parking. MORE DETAILS • Please bring your kids. This is a family-friendly affair. • We encourage families, if they are able, to bring something to share potluck-style. All of our Frida Kahlo Community Programs (arts) are community-based and community-led and intentionally established to reach cash poor families in Black and Brown neighborhoods. We recognize that the history of the majority of people worldwide is a history of colonialism, genocide, and exploitation. Our Frida Kahlo Community Programs are rooted in movements that build the community's power to transform the conditions of fragmentation, displacement, and loss of culture that result from this history through art. We seek to create in ways that amplify the narratives of communities of color, that inspire solidarity in Monterey County, and that center self-exploration and cultural expression: https://focmc.org/frida-kahlo-community-programs/

OMG, so exciting; finally KNOWING where my donations go.
Just pondering this event, I'm more motivated than ever to downsize and clean house, given the added bonus of meeting like-minded people, and literally GIVING BACK. I already want to BRING THIS EVENT TO SANTA CRUZ area where i live.
I have a bunch of great (almost new) stuff left over from my recently-abandoned consumerist phase (furniture, appliances, bedding, soft goods, canned food, clothes, decor, activism books) in good condition I've been wanting to DONATE but, I've been reluctant, 'cause donating to thrift stores is so anonymous and impersonal, plus, i hear--but don't claim to know--that Salvation Army and Goodwill rake in BILLIONS$ per year with roughly only about 5 Cents of each dollar going toward "charity".
I can't wait to get home this afternoon and begin gathering stuff to take!
A Big THANK YOU and advance CONGRATULATIONS (I can't see why this would NOT be a success) to the Event Organizers and SEE YOU THERE!!
