On Dec. 28, 2017, in the religious center, Mashhad, Iran, demonstrations broke out, quickly spreading to over 90 cities and towns in every part of the country. Protesters voiced human indignation over sharp increases in the cost of basic food items, unemployment, unpaid labor, government corruption, and proposed higher fuel prices. They opposed Iran’s genocidal, imperialist war in Syria.
In retrospect, the Iranian regime’s crushing of the 2009 Green Movement can be seen as a dress rehearsal for the world ruling classes’ attempted murder of the Arab Spring revolutions in 2011. How does this new-born struggle impact our own against the global turn to reactionary nationalism personified by Trump here?
