Whose land? Our Land. Israel/Palestine/SF/Marin for the people: a walking tour

Date:
Saturday, December 09, 2017
Time:
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Event Type:
Teach-In
Organizer/Author:
David Giesen
Location Details:
the American Youth Hostel
312 Mason Street
San Francisco

Come along on a walking tour surveying San Francisco social movement history, proposing the hypothesis that most oppressed peoples seek 'security in geography,' and submitting for consideration San Francisco's 1879 Big Idea for resolving a butt load of social challenges. Along the way you'll get a fresh perspective on the Ohlone displacement, the Mormon hegira, the 'back-to-the-land' 60s via The Diggers, the Black Panthers, and LGBTQ struggles. We'll relate all that to the 2,800+ year contention for land in Israel/Palestine involving Jerusalem, and in turn bring that story home to housing today in San Francisco.

This walk has been featured in San Francisco Magazine, attended by the UK's Labour Party, denigrated by Dick Armey and Paul Ryan; and it shows Thomas Picketty the door, Karl Marx the egress, and Bernie Sanders the way home to funding universal health care and debt-free higher education. Oh. And you want to sink D. Trump, once and for all? Bring your liberal do-gooder buddies along and you'll get the grit to polish Trumpism off.

FREE, but it will cost you your Saturday morning and doobie political thought.
